Ara-Moana is to function in Polynesia, and Polynesian tradition and culture are in focus. But the project has its roots in Denmark, and the activities here are crucial to the project. The Danish branch has three main responsibilities:

There are quite a few expenses connected to the project Ara-Moana. Because the available funds in Polynesia are limited, the money for the completion of the project must be found in Denmark and the rest of Europe, at least during the first years. Thus, Ara-Moana, Denmark is in charge of the fundraising for the project.

Cultural exchange involves communication at many levels, and it is, of course, the idea that the Danish participants should contribute as much as possible within all areas of interest. Apart from selecting the Danish participants, the Danish branch, possibly in co-operation with the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, holds introduction courses for the coming crew. Key subjects will be: "Introduction to the Concept of Ara-Moana", "Nature Navigation vs. GPS (Global Positioning System)", "Denmark in the Viking Age" and "Polynesian cultural history".

Finally, Denmark will hold a yearly Ara-Moana seminar of considerable size. It will take as its starting-point the projects activities, but will also deal with the development in Polynesia, nature navigation and the importance of traditions. This will be a unique opportunity to experience some of the Polynesian participants in Denmark, whereby the exchange is completed. The Viking Ship Museum has also shown a great interest in this part of the project.
