Scandinavian/Polynesian Friendship Association Ara-Moana (SPFAA) is an organization, which through cultural exchanges seeks to disseminate knowledge of the cultural conditions of the Pacific Islands and support local initiatives. The association is situated in Copenhagen, Denmark, and has members in Denmark, Sweden and Holland.
The activities are at present centered around the double canoe Ara-Moana, which has been used as a platform for Polynesian and Danish protests against nuclear tests forced upon the Polynesian people.
The association is now concentrating its forces on bringing Ara-Moana to the Pacific. It is the intention to use it as a "culture ship" in cooperation with local grassroot movements.
In the Pacific the association cooperates with Hiti Tau, which is an umbrella organization in French Polynesia. It holds the chairmanship of PIANGO (Pacific Islands Association of NGO's).
On a long term the cooperation will, hopefully, include viable projects concerning a selfsupportive local economy as well as dissemination of information about climatic effects on the environment, chemical and radioactive disposal practices etc.
