The resumption of French nuclear testings at Mururoa provoked the Scandinavian/Polynesian Friendship Association Ara Moana (SPFAA) to make a public statement in support of the Maohi.
To put power behind the message, Ara Moana sailed out from Copenhagen in late August 1995 to Amsterdam. The time schedule was determined by the weather and the good contacts which were established along the way.
So, in close cooperation with the French Polynesian organization Hiti Tau and the Dutch funding agency XMINY, SPFAA staged a press conference in Amsterdam on the 20th of September. Attending were two representatives of Hiti Tau, who elaborated on the activities of Hiti Tau and the background on the previous riots on Tahiti in September. The press conference received excellent coverage in the Dutch press and television.
The voyage was made possible thanks to contributions from the Peace Foundation and the Solistial Foundation in Denmark.
